There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features many amenities aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
